Weddings at The Guildhall, Leicester: a photographer’s guide

Booked The Guildhall, or thinking about it? Here’s why I love photographing there, and how to make the most of it.

A 600-year-old wedding venue in the middle of the city

The Guildhall’s timber frame is one of the best preserved in the country, and parts of the building date back over 600 years. Legend has it Shakespeare once performed here. It’s got more character than almost any venue in Leicestershire.

Gorgeous light, rain or shine

The old windows let in soft, flattering light, which is perfect for portraits when the weather isn’t on our side. On a sunny day, the cobbled lanes around the Cathedral make a stunning backdrop just a few steps away.

Guests in the courtyard (Guildhall photo to come)

A quiet courtyard in the middle of town

You’d expect the city centre to be noisy, but the courtyard is a proper little retreat. It’s perfect for canapés and relaxed photos with family and friends.

Where to go next

One of the best things about a Guildhall wedding is that your reception is a short walk away. Pub do or grand sit-down meal, the city’s got you covered, and a walk through town together makes for brilliant photos.
